SOME ALBUM REVIEWS:

Bon Iver : For Emma, Forever Ago - Beautiful, haunting melodies sung in heartbreaking falsetto. Frontman and Songwriter Justin Vernon, apparently, spent three months of winter locked in a cabin writing and recording the record - after losing his band and his girlfriend, and (the icing on the cake) catching mono.

("Bon Iver" is french for "Good Winter")

Black Mountain : In The Future - Oh man! I saw Black Mountain play last night and they ruled so hard. This record is (just like their live show) flawless rock and roll. A fine mix of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane... I don't feel a review is even necessary... For the love of God, go buy this record.

No Kids : Come Into My House - Another Vancouver band (Black Mountain, also) that I'm fairly impressed with. It's indie pop mixed with a dash of contemporary R&B, and that's okay with me. Mellow and cool.

Jonny Greenwood : There Will Be Blood Soundtrack OST - If you've seen the movie, you're already a little creeped out. Listen to the soundtrack without seeing the movie, and you're still creeped out. Greenwood's experimentation with strings is impressive. Each song has its own eerie-ness that is sure to give you goosebumps.

Download: Wide Open Spaces, Future Markets

Ida : Lovers Prayers - Married for ten years and making music for fifteen, Daniel Littleton and Elizabeth Mitchell have the indie-soft-folk thing down. I like this album. These stripped down, acoustic songs are perfect for playing on a long roadtrip with friends.

Rating: 7/10
