Silver Spoon

My wonderful mother-in-law is starting a new "popsicles made with fresh ingredients" business called "Silver Spoon" in Fredricksburg, Texas. Check out silverspoontrailer.com (which is currently under construction) for more information and a link to her blog.

I did the above illustration for the site.

Stay tuned for updates about her delicious summer treats!

The Latimer Bros.

I came across these illustrators from Cape Town, South Africa today. They are geniuses.

Alex Latimer:

Patrick Latimer:

Together they do a comic strip that might be my favorite online strip I have seen -- The Western Nostril:

(top 5 of 2008 lists start tomorrow!)

Diabolical Monsters: Revisited!

In October of '07 I posted a blog about the "Monstruos Diabolicos" seen here.

Now, it looks like they have revamped the monsters, and you can see them here.

Eyvind Earle

(featured at Disneyland from 1957 until the mid-70's)

I recently came across these amazing images by Eyvind Earle (1916-2000), who was an artist, illustrator and author. He did the background illustrations and stylings for Disney in the 1950's, including Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan and a few shorts.

Retro-Tomorrowland

I found these retro Disneyland's Tomorrowland posters today. I would give anything to have been at Disneyland when it opened in 1955.

Which one is your favorite?

The Gashlycrumb Tinies

These are a couple of pages from the book "The Gashlycrumb Tinies" by Edward Gorey. The book is pretty morbid about 26 children that are alphabetically disposed of one by one. I dunno how I just now heard about this. It was printed in the early 60's. All of Gorey's books and illustrations are macabre and witty, and that's right up my alley. Not to mention, the guy was mostly self taught... like me!

Scott Campbell!

This may be the coolest thing I have ever seen. See if you can name all the characters featured in the Cult Tree! My favorite part is that Indiana Jones and Ash are on the same branch. Can you find Pee Wee? Or Wicket? Or Greedo? Or Willow? Or Spinal Tap? Oh yeah, they're all there, my friends...

Here's more Scott C. stuff...

and... E.T. and Friends...

I added a few of these to my Christmas wish list.

If you know me, you know that I love illustrations of pop culture icons (especially E.T.), so this is like the best of both worlds! Plus they feature some of the characters I grew up with. I love these... and Scott C. seems pretty rad, too!

Buy one for me!

Check out Scott's blog, too!
